Spring 2021 Project Ideas!

Projects ENVS 400 Students:

  1. Gunnison Whitewater Park / Gunnison River interpretive sign or interpretive sign set.

    1. A great project for a group of students that isn’t (fully) in the Gunnison Valley as there is a research and design component as well as the implementation component. Could be a great visual educational tool here in the valley and lots of people will get to see the final product.

    2. We estimate that signs of this nature could cost roughly $300 to print and install, so just to keep a budget in mind.

    3. Contact us at thewesternwaterchannel@gmail.com for help with ideas and funding.

  2. Gunnison River Trail project with Gunnison Trails

    1. Just something that I thought of, I recommend contacting Gunnison trails for more info, they have other great projects such as the Gunnison to CB trail as well!

ENVS 350 projects:

  1. The annual snow survey!

    1. Mill Creek and Taylor Park

    2. Final weekends of February and the First weekends of March

  2. Campus Ditch Water information / interpretive sign

    1. We were thinking of locating it near the top of the Kelley Hall path (near the signpost).

  3. Psychedelic Falls re-design/ safety petition

    1. Petition to make this feature safer for boaters on the Gunnison River

    2. Would allow boaters to float a longer segment of the river

    3. Leave the re-design to specialists but we were thinking a feature more similar to the ones upstream in the whitewater park

  4. Hydrology table design and build

    1. Maybe an outdoor option that connects to the ditch

    2. Water education tool

    3. Talk to us for more details

  5. Campaign to get a Simtable / AR Sandbox at Western

    1. Super cool technology

    2. http://www.simtable.com

    3. Multi-departmental

    4. Great way to practice grant work

    5. Put Western on the Map with this technology and have a hub for this tech on the West Slope!

  6. Work with Coldharbour Institute to implement gauging station at the confluence of Tomichi and Cochetopa Creeks
